melodies, irregular pulsations, diversified dynamics, the
quest for original timbres.... Garlicks has an original
sonority elaborated with the greatest respect for the
essential bases of jazz and the history of classical music
.
The debut as quintet was followed by a season with the
singer Sascha Ley. ‘Mutant Standards’ is the outcome of
this collaboration. Since 2001 Garlicks has been performing
in a refined quartet ensemble of classical jazz. After the
departure of Jitz in late 2005, the band returns to its
original trio lineup with Georges Urwald on piano, John
Schlammes on bass and Al Lenners on drums.
Their repertoire mainly consists of orginal compositions
written by pianist Georges Urwald mostly, as well as some
jazz standards spiced up with Garlicks’ own sauce.
Since 2007, Garlicks works more and more on conceptual
projects, including guest musicians and connecting music,
dance, film or artpictures.
Garlicks has been performing in Luxembourg, at the
festivals ‘Art in Beaufort’, ‘Music in Syrdall’, ‘Live at
Vauban’, ‘ClervauxJazz’, or with the Indian guitarrist
Prassana and as opener of a Michael Brecker concert. The
band has also performed abroad, for example at the theatre
in Bregenz (A), at the 'Music Village' in Brussels, in New
York and in Washington (HR57, Bohemian Caverns), at the
festivals 'Jazz im Brunnenhof' in Germany, 'Gaume Jazz
festival' (B) and at the European Jazz Festival in Athens.
